He knows that you’re smiling.Īs you run back to him, you hold out your hands. Your partner waves at you from the top of the hill.

You jump and stick the landing on the rubber floor. You throw your head back and let the wind take you. You take a few steps, and before you realize where you are, you’re on the swing set, swinging back and forth through the air, your hands gripped tightly around the metal chains. There are too many fingerprints, too many places that were meant to be touched, too many kids sliding down a plastic staticky slide. From the top of the hill you look down at the playground, monkey bars with paint barely hanging on. There are too many people, kids running up and down a small grassy hill playing tag with their siblings, adults standing on the pavement. You are walking down a sidewalk in a park you haven’t visited in years. Capsule Stories Spring 2021 Edition: In Bloom Spring is here, and with it comes growth, new life, and hope. The typefaces are kept the same throughout, giving the magazine a cohesive and professional feel. Any long chunks of text are broken up by illustrations and pulled quotes which keep the pages looking lively. Across the magazine’s 78 pages, we’re presented with a glorious display of colour and imagery. Apart from that, the design is wonderful. Also, the illustrations are almost all in the same style and although this keeps a theme, it may have been interesting to see more of a variation. Unfortunately, there is the occasional page where an image runs across the entire double page spread and some of the details are lost in the binding. The writing is truly gorgeous, and you will be swept along a river of emotions as you make your way through the collection. This issue is described as ‘a collection of vivid writing about the importance of liberty, free will and feelings of wild abandon.’ It contains the work of 23 writers and a further 23 illustrators. It is currently in its 29 th edition – The Freedom Issue. This is the kind of magazine that you keep forever and continuously revisit which is evident in both its physical quality and the quality of the content. Released quarterly, Popshot can be purchased as a single issue for £6 or as a yearly subscription for £24. In 2012, it relaunched itself as ‘the illustrated magazine of new writing.’ It looks for the best writers and illustrators and combines their work to produce a stimulating culmination of fantastic artwork. The magazine proves that poetry is still fresh and exciting in the 21 st century. It certainly did that when it became the first British poetry magazine to be internationally distributed in 18 countries. Launched in April 2009, Popshot was a poetry magazine intended to breathe new life into British poetry.
